April 2017 – Cycling News

April 2 – Brackley to Bodicote

A group of twelve made this fabulous ride to Bodicote organised by Owen. A cool start and a hilly route with superb quiet roads with a stop at the Oak Coffee Shop at Cotefield Nurseries.

Michael and Owen decided to add an extended loop to help with Michael’s training for the London to Paris cycling event being held in June. The rest of the group made their way back to Brackley via Kings Sutton.

April 9th – Winslow

A lovely ride to Winslow, a ride we have not done since the closure of the popular Jenny Wren cafe staff and their move to  Green Dragon Eco Centre (see 23rd April ride ). Although we managed to obtain a hot drink unfortunately there was no really suitable cafe stop and the ride will probably be struck off our favourites list.

The return ride was superb – warm weather and the excellent cycle track and quiet roads route from Winslow discovered by Steve.

April 16th – Napton

A cold start for seven members plus our always welcome guest rider Paul, the weather quickly improved and was generally warm and sunny although precipitation (more positive term than rain) threatened at times.

The visit to the Napton Stores & Cafe in Napton on the Hill, one of our favourite stops, did not disappoint – great cakes and the friendliest staff you could wish for.

The route had the added bonus of riding on the excellent Warwickshire roads – Northamptonshire County Council hang your heads in shame for your unacceptable attitude to failing and potholed roads.

April 23rd 2017 – Green Dragon

Our first ride to the Green Dragon Eco Centre www.greendragonfarm.co.uk

With several members having prior commitments ranging from house moves through to Michael’s London to Paris training session in the Peak District, only five riders hardy riders rode the rather cool start but enjoyed the sunshine breaking through after 30m minutes.

The destination was the Green Dragon Eco Farm near Hogshaw Buckinghamshire – a thoroughly recommended cafe stop if you arrive reasonably early and before the deluge of cyclists from as far away as Amersham.

The return ride was superb – warm weather and again using the excellent cycle track and quiet roads route from Winslow discovered by Steve.
